Storytime: Spring!

If you know me, you know I’m not a fan of extreme temperatures. Because of that, my favorite seasons are Fall and Spring. But even ignoring the temperature thing, there’s just a certain smell, crispness, and feeling to those two seasons. It’s amazing and that’s one of the reasons I love them.

Storytime: Blankets!

This is a great theme for Fall or Winter and can be paired with the topic of “Cozy Things” or even something like knitting or stuffed animals. I like to do mine right around the time we have our first snow.

Storytime: Snow!

Ooook, we’ve had a couple snowfalls already this season, so I guess it’s time! As you might know, I don’t love the winter season, but the first few snowfalls are kind of beautiful and magical. So here are some of my favorite books and songs for a preschool snow storytime theme.

ASL Storytime: ABC’s and 123’s

When the pandemic hit and my coworkers and I weren’t allowed to work for 5 weeks while we were on complete lockdown, I decided to try something that I’ve always wanted to do – Learn some American Sign Language (ASL). I took a super basic course online, learned a lot about ASL history, deaf culture,Continue reading “ASL Storytime: ABC’s and 123’s”

Storytime: Clothing and Getting Dressed

When a child is young, everything is new to them, so it makes sense that in the first five years of their life they need reinforcement for concepts that adults consider common sense. Getting dressed and clothing are an example of this kind of world knowledge that a child has to grow. But even moreContinue reading “Storytime: Clothing and Getting Dressed”

Storytime: Animals in Winter!

What a classic and brilliant theme for storytime! This theme is used in preschools and daycares and much more, so it’s always fun to put a library spin on it! If your library does extension activities with your storytimes, there are a great number to add onto this, both craft and STEAM.

Storytime: Hats!

This is a great, all seasons, storytime to talk about a piece of clothing that has many different uses! Of course, you can tailor it to be seasonal (using only books with winter or summer hats), but I like to mix it up and talk about all the different uses and types!

Storytime: Winter!

Annnnnd, winter is officially here. I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of winter. I love the first snow or two and the magic it brings, but….after that, I’m done. But I try not to express that to any of my patrons!

Storytime: Family!

There are SO MANY fantastic stories about families! Seriously I have a hard time choosing what to include! No matter what I decide, I always make sure different family types are represented. I know the bond between a child and a mom or a child and a dad is really special, but not all kidsContinue reading “Storytime: Family!”

Storytime: Fall!

The days are already getting shorter and the sun is rising later and setting earlier. Fall is coming and it’s my favorite time of year! Comfy sweater weather, spiced coffees and baked goods are everywhere, the world is crisp and oh-so-colorful, and you can literally smell Fall. And, of course, it makes for a funContinue reading “Storytime: Fall!”
