My name is Virginia, but I like to go by Ginny. I have many similarities to Ginny Weasley (I also have twin brothers!), but I digress.
A little about my background: My undergraduate degree is in English and Creative Writing with a minor in Folklore. During my graduate work, I concentrated on Youth and Children’s services with a focus on early literacy. I graduated with my MLS in 2014. I currently work at my childhood library as a Children’s Librarian.
I’m also an adjunct lecturer at a university’s School of Information and Library Science. I have a long history with libraries, learning first-hand how libraries can positively impact lives when I was just 5 years old and coming to my local library for help with a visual tracking disorder. The thoughtful and empathetic librarians I encountered, along with seeing libraries morph into community centers, places that encourage social justice activism and maker-centric spaces, encouraged me to pursue a career in the field. Through my education, I have worked in many different departments and libraries. I’ve been everything from a shelver to circulation clerk to senior information assistant to an outreach librarian and a short stint in adult services to my current calling as a Children’s Librarian at my childhood library. I currently work with children ages 0-12 years, their families, and childhood educators. I regularly present at conferences and university classes both in the library world and the education world. I’m a fan of all things Kid’s Lit, fandom culture, dogs, tattoos, and poetry.
I’m excited to share the world of children’s literature, programming, and public libraries with students, patrons, and other library professionals!
