Ughhhh, I really do not like spiders. Seriously am very scared of them. But I acknowledge they are good for our environment and all that. Just don’t come anywhere near me!
Introduction: Before officially starting storytime, we always sing out opening song to get the kids ready to go!
Sign of the Day: Spider, of course! This one is a fun sign because it’s a little creepy 🙂
Book: Bear’s Scare by Jacob Grant

A fun and funny story that grownups and kids are both sure to enjoy!
Song: Itsy Bitsy Spider (3 Ways). This is a silly spin on the classic song, allowing kids to play with the pitch of their voices.
Book: Walter’s Wonderful Web by Tim Hopgood

This book is great for a few reasons. One, it’s a great conceptual Shapes book to help kids learn about shapes and patterns. Two, it’s a nice one to talk about the beauty in nature. and finally, Walter’s determination is a great little social/emotional lesson for kids.
Rhyme: One Little Elephant Went Out to Play. This is a great one to use on a felt board, as well!
One little elephant went out to play, Upon a spider’s web one day.
He had such enormous fun, That he called for another little elephant.
Two little elephants went out to play…
Three little elephants went out to play…
Four little elephants went out to play…
Five little elephants went out to play, Upon a spider’s web one day.
The web went creak, the web went crack, And five little elephants came running back!
Puppets: The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle

Eric Carle’s books really lend themselves to retelling in new formats. I like doing this one with felt or puppets (the kids go wild when I use puppets on this one!)
Closing: And there we have it! Spiders as a storytime can be a ton of fun, even if you’re terrified of them like me! After we finish all our content, we sing our goodbye song.
